I give instructional workshops for absolute beginners. Many wonder if they can paint. The series of workshops offer the opportunity for people to answer this question and perhaps discover a passion for art. I have given most of these workshops as part of programs aimed at giving back to the community or as a fundraising event in the villages of north Kawarthas.
This is a piece I like to use as an introduction to acrylics for absolute beginners, whether for adults or children. It takes three hours to complete and includes an introduction to the basics of painting in acrylic throughout the steps. Workshops I’ve given over the past few years have been part of giving back to the community. The best part for me is seeing the diverse backgrounds, snow, and trees emerge as each participant expresses their individual feel for the scene. At the end of the workshop, everyone has an opportunity to view their painting in a frame I bring along for this purpose. Other paintings done at beginner workshops have included mushroom study, loose florals, woman wading at seashore, and barn study. Always a fun time.
